Hi Alan, I used to read the UK Transformers comic as a kid and I recently realised to my surprise that my favourite cover from that time was by you; the cover to issue 100. I'm wondering how you ended up doing that; from the number of characters in the picture it seems a lot of work as purely a one-off? Was it just for monetary reasons or because you found some pleasure in the idea of doing it? Also, a lot of the original artwork from those comics doesn't exist anymore and I was wondering if the artwork to the cover still existed and if so is it still in your possession or did it pass into private hands?
Thanks
Ricky

This cover was drawn with my son, Thomas. He was six at the time
and a Transformers fan. Mike Collins, who had been drawing pages for
the Transformer comic published by Marvel UK, presented Thomas with
a file of Transformer model sheets. At the time, Thomas believed I
couldn’t be that good a comic artist since I didn’t draw the
Transformers, so, desperate to gain my son’s approval, I phoned the
editor and asked if I could do a cover. I worked out a rough
composition and Thomas told me which characters to place where and
ensured that the details were right. He has been my greatest critic
ever since.

Only tangentially related, but...here's one of "the greatest team-ups that never happened...but should have!" Batman and the Outsiders and...The Transformers!
