From Alan Davis:

"Remembering Garry Leach.

I didn't know Garry well on a personal level but I liked and respected him and his work. Circumstance threw us together when I was asked to pencil two episodes of Marvelman for Garry to ink. I was intimidated to say the least. Anyone who saw issue one of Warrior when it first hit the news-stand will remember how revolutionary Garry's work was. In fact the quality of Garry's illustration on the first instalment of Marvelman was the only reason I ordered the second issue of Warrior. During the brief time we worked together I was privileged to see Garry's work from sketches to finished pages. I learned a lot and in the process I found Garry to be a generous and truly decent man.

In the years that followed whenever we met our conversation would always return to Warrior, Marvelman and lost opportunities. Garry put his heart and soul into every job but his vision for the Warpsmith series was his passion and its a disgrace he wasn't allowed to continue it. That's the real tragedy. Garry's true potential was never recognised. In an industry that values speed above quality Garry pushed the boundaries of the medium in pursuit of excellence. His published work leaves no doubt that he succeeded."
