Re: My Son, Who is Seven

Hi Tony Thanks for the kind words. Especially nice to know some youngsters are still reading comics. When I first started drawing comics in the early 80’s at least 50% of convention attendees were young teenagers. Nowadays youngsters are a rarity... At least at the Conventions I attend. It sounds li...

Re: Colouring competitions?

The short answer is no. The contest was originally inspired by pages of coloured downloads sent to my site e-mail. Amateurs who, in my opinion, showed how easy it is to colour black-line art and how poorly many professional colourists perform by comparison. I hoped to demonstrate that and to start a...

Since you claim to know my thinking it seems unlikely you’d be interested in my true opinion.

Re: Retirement plans?

Yoikes, Jim. D’you think it’s time I was put out to pasture? Does my preference for the traditions of romanticised escapism, glamorous stereotypes and solid, fast paced, storytelling make me appear outmoded in this era of decompressed nihilistic conceits and murky digital ‘illustration’? Seriously t...

Re: Captain Britain question

An instance of creativity through bluff perhaps. The original ‘Lion rampant’ CB had a staff (that became a sceptre and then a rune covered staff sceptre—essentially morphing from DD’s billy club, to Mjolinr and then into a magic stick. One of the original staff’s functions was to generate a forcefie...

Re: Crazy Gang from Excalibur

I think it would be true to say that the Crazy Gang’s evolution was a result of opposing ambitions and convenience. The Crazy Gang, or at least their names, were conceived before I was involved with Captain Britain so I don’t know whether it was Paul Neary or Dave Thorpe who originated the names or ...

Re: Ongoing Clandestine

While it is highly unlikely I’ll ever get to do more ClanDestine I still don’t want to give too much away and can only apologise for being evasive. I think I have already mentioned elsewhere that elements of the story in Thor: Truth of History were originally part of my plans for the ClanDestine. So...

Re: Alan Moore's fabled scripts

Without seeing the script in question I have no opinion. I worked with Alan Moore for about three years over twenty five years ago. I never had any dense or massive scripts from Alan. A few typical samples can be seen in my Website Trivia section. http://www.alandavis-comicart.com/scripts.html Alan ...

Re: Can EXCALIBUR FOREVER be far behind?

Thanks for the kind words and enthusiasm. I did a lot more in the twelve years I was associated with Captain Britain than just Captain Britain. Marvelman, Harry 20, DR and Quinch, Star Wars, Aquaman, BATO, New Mutants, X-Men...etc! I could easily have continued writing and drawing Excalibur but ther...

Re: Will you be sketching this weekend?

I was sketching. Apologies for this belated reply. I spent an extra week in the US after San Diego then had to dive straight into Captain America when I got back. It’s my first mainstream/scheduled series for some time and, although the deadline isn’t too tight, I hoped to create a bigger cushion of...

Re: Excalibur continuity question

Hi Rayeye As Ilke notes this was a point of discussion on an earlier posting and I’ve recently been sent links by Ilke and others to a debate which might have over-dramatised the situation further. Excalibur was to be my first regular monthly writing job so I asked for a big safety net of time in ca...

Re: Ongoing Clandestine

Thanks for the kind words. If there was even the slightest hope that the Clandestine could find a large enough audience to make a regular series viable I wouldn’t hesitate in devoting myself to telling as many stories as possible before I turn my toes up. The reality is, for whatever reasons, the se...

Re: Mid-Ohio Con

Hi Paul Mark Farmer and I have been talking about attending a couple of US Cons for years. With the NY and Ohio Cons falling just a week apart we considered spending ten days in the US so that we could attend both and have time to visit friends and colleagues in between. Unfortunately Mark wasn’t ab...

Re: Inspirations

Thank you for the kind words, Ronald. It may seem like splitting semantic hairs but I’ve never thought of myself as an ‘artist’. I’m a storyteller, writer-illustrator, entertainer. To my way of thinking art or artist are terms to be applied when a creator or creation has achieved a standard of excel...

Re: Will you be sketching at SDCC this year?

I hope to do some sketching every day but it will really depend on how my wrist holds up. I can usually only manage a couple of hours in a convention environment-- which is why I haven't taken a space in Artist Alley. John Fanucchi of the the Naked Fat Rave, booth #4601, has been kind enough to offe...
