Re: Any tips for drawing night scenes in comics?

There’s no simple answer to this Jim. Personally I don’t like arbitrary glows or white outlines around figures. I try to design the image so that the foreground and background blacks don’t get muddled. The main issue, as with any storytelling, is what are you trying to show? For clarity a scene migh...

Re: Thanks to Alan

Most of what might be regarded as the cream of Frank Bellamy's work has been reprinted in some form or other since the 80's, except for Heros. Sadly, I don't think a petition would help. The bottom line for any publication must always be commercial viability. But watch this space! I’m sure most peop...

Re: Thanks to Alan

I'm pretty disappointed that after the best part of twenty-five years it hasn't been possible to do a book devoted to Frank Bellamy. But what disappoints me more is that Frank's widow Nancy has received no money from the recent Book Palace publications. I had assumed she would even, if Frank had sig...

Re: Brum

Gordon Birmingham is always a good convention. Relaxed and fun. So is Bristol. All being well I'll be at both again next year. I think Pro's have to support the Cons or they will die out-- AND its no hardship when they are so enjoyable. Its the guys organising the events who do all the hard work and...

Re: Still attending BICS 2010?

Jake Barring some unforeseen crisis I will be at the Birmingham Con next weekend. I’m sure I’ll be doing sketches although I had hoped to cut back by offering A4 prelim pencils at the same price as a pencilled headshot, £10— I foolishly thought a small piece of actual ‘process’ from a publication wo...

Re: Question about an Excalibur page - Meggan & Captain Brit

And our favourite purple follicled English rose is still an Elektra inspired Ninja. The point being different creators have different opinions, change happens. Take your pick. I’ve stated categorically that I don’t think Brian was (or ever should be) an alcoholic but I have been in disagreement with...

Re: George Khoury on Marvelman/Miracleman saga

I’m pretty irritated by these postings. After George Khoury messed up my contribution on the original Kimota book from TwoMorrows back in 2001 he assured me it was all an error and asked me to contribute to the new book so he could get it right. The book isn’t out yet but Khoury has posted what he d...

Re: Question about an Excalibur page - Meggan & Captain Brit

I think Ilke is exactly right, Mark. There was never any implication of violence towards Meggan. Why anyone should want to take a panel out of context to prove such a stupid theory baffles me. Brian was always a temperamental guy-- self centred, clumsy, egotistical, arrogant, confused, angry—but tot...

Re: ClanDestine, X-Men Thank Yous

Thanks for kind words about Clandestine, John. I haven’t kept track of Cyclops’ fate but my the sketch ‘appeal’ was motivated by my belief that in making every character ‘kewl’ the group, family, team are homogenised into sterility. Its the diversity of a group that generates appeal and gives a cont...

Re: Do you watch any comic book related animated series?

Hi James I actually have a TV next to my drawing board so have ample opportunity to watch animated series but for purely practical reasons I usually only ‘watch’ things I can ‘listen’ to like news, documentaries OR DVDs of the sort of movies or TV programmes where, once you have identified who is sp...
